How does my pet develop arthritis?

Arthritis doesn’t just happen overnight, the disease is known as “wear and tear” illness for a reason. Because of this, it is usually seen in older pets as the ligament between their bones have worn out, leaving the bones to rub against each other. Your loyal companion will start to feel pain in their joints making them shy away from physical activity, limp, gain weight and become irritable. Pets can also develop arthritis from multiple injuries or be more prone to developing the disease because of their size. Larger breed pets are more likely to have arthritis because their weight can put strain on the joints.

Can arthritis be cured?

Unfortunately there is no cure for arthritis. Early detection and support is the best option. We can create a treatment plan for your furry friend. If your pet’s condition is due to their lifestyle or made worse by their weight, we will suggest diet modifications and exercise. We may also suggest joint supplements to make them stronger. Other treatment options include pain medication and laser therapy to reduce inflammation and pain.
