During time of celebration it is important to keep your pet’s safety and well-being in mind. Noise, especially fireworks, can frighten our pets and also put them at risk. Follow these 6 tips to keep your pet safe.

TIP 1: Make sure your pet has a comfortable, safe and quiet place to stay. Prepare a den for them in their favorite place.

TIP 2: Keep all of your pet’s favorite toys in their safe area. This will provide them with distractions from loud noises, and gives you an opportunity to encourage them to have some fun.

TIP 3: Exercise your pet early during the day. Keep them indoors once fireworks begin.

TIP 4: Make sure to close all windows and blinds. Turn on the TV or some music to help muffle the sound of fireworks.

TIP 5: NEVER punish your pet when they are scared. It is important to ignore any fearful behaviour (unless your pet is likely to get hurt) as this can make your pet more distressed.

TIP 6: Always make sure your pet has identification! Try not to leave your pet alone when fireworks are going off, keep your routine as normal as possible.
