Surgical Procedures

No cat owner wants to see his pet in pain, but no matter how well you take care of your cat, accidents and illnesses may still befall them. Surgical procedures are sometimes needed, and we make sure your cat is given loving care as well as high quality medical treatment.

Other then spaying and neutering there are two other surgeries that are often conducted – soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery. Surgeries are classified as either soft tissue surgery (spays and neuters are soft tissue surgeries) or orthopedic surgery.

  • Soft tissue surgery is refers to surgical procedures that are not associated with bone. A common type of soft tissue surgery that we perform on cats is lump removals. Since skin lumps in cats are more likely to be malignant than benign, it’s better to be safe than sorry and so we recommend testing of the lumps and their removal. Early removal of a lump is needed to improve the outcome if the mass is cancerous.

  • Orthopedic surgery refers to bone surgery, most commonly for repairing broken bones. We perform orthopedic surgeries at our clinic. For very complex procedures like back surgery, we bring in a board certified veterinary surgeon.

During surgical procedures we also offer the opportunity to microchip your cat while they are under sedation and anesthesia. Microchipping ensures easy identification if your cat is lost. This procedure involves inserting a microchip the size of a grain of rice with a personal ID number on it just under the skin of your cat.

Implanting a microchip is quick, easy, and painless this means that even if your cat is not going for a surgery it can still get a microchip to ensure that they are found if they are ever lost.
